Narrating "Steps Forward"

Hey everyone! I'm back with another story from my voiceover journey. This time, I want to share my experience narrating "Steps Forward."

While "Steps Forward" didn't have as many characters as my first audiobook, "Czaritan," it presented a different kind of challenge. The complexity of the story lay in the depth and contrast of the main characters, Rosa and Laura.

Rosa had a smoky voice and carried deep emotions, shaped by her life experiences. Narrating her required me to tap into a more mature and nuanced vocal quality. I had to convey a sense of gravitas and resilience, while still allowing her vulnerability to shine through.

Laura, on the other hand, was higher-toned and conveyed a sense of immaturity. She was more energetic and expressive, with a youthful exuberance that I had to capture in my voice. It was a delicate balance to portray her naiveté without making her sound one-dimensional.

Navigating these contrasting personalities and their emotional journeys was a rewarding experience. It pushed me to further refine my vocal range and emotional dexterity.

Even though "Steps Forward" was the second book I narrated, it holds a special place in my heart. It was the first audiobook of mine to be published on Audible, and seeing my name on that platform was an incredibly exciting and validating moment. It was a tangible milestone that made all the hard work feel truly worthwhile.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to have brought these characters and their story to life, and I'm excited for what the future holds. Stay tuned for more updates on my voiceover adventures!

Thanks for listening,

Ruthie
